Copilot Could Soon Auto-Open in Microsoft Edge - Here’s What That Means for You
Microsoft is going all-in on AI lately, and the next big change could be how you use Edge.
Right now, if you want to use Copilot in Microsoft Edge, you need to click the little icon in the sidebar. Not a big deal. But that might change soon.
🆕 Microsoft is testing a new feature where Copilot opens automatically every time you launch Edge or open a new tab. It’ll be right there, ready and waiting in your sidebar.
Some people will love it. Others… maybe not so much. But one thing’s clear: Microsoft wants Copilot to become part of your everyday browsing.
🔧 New “Ask Copilot” Feature on the Way Too
There’s also a new feature in testing: an "Ask Copilot" button in the Settings menu. That means if you're trying to change something in your browser and can’t figure it out, you could just ask Copilot for help instead of clicking around for ages.
💡 If it works well, it could save your team time and frustration.
👨💻 Why This Matters for Businesses Using Edge
If your team uses Microsoft Edge, here’s how these updates could help:
🔍 Faster troubleshooting
Something not working? Instead of Googling or calling IT, you could just ask Copilot for a fix.
🤖 AI always on standby
Need to summarise an article, draft an email, or brainstorm ideas? Copilot’s ready when you are.
🔐 Improved security
Microsoft is also testing a “Scareware Blocker” to detect and block scam websites using AI – a great tool for keeping your team safe online.
⏳ When Will These Features Be Released?
As with most Microsoft experiments, these features are being tested in Edge Canary (their preview version). Some features never make it past testing, but with how heavily Microsoft is pushing AI, this one might stick.
🤔 Will Everyone Like It?
That depends.
If you enjoy having AI tools at your fingertips, auto-opening Copilot could be a big win. But if you prefer a more minimalist browsing experience, it might feel intrusive. And of course, there are privacy questions.
Microsoft hasn’t explained how this will work just yet. Hopefully, there’ll be an option to switch it off if you’d rather not have Copilot always listening in.
📌 The Bottom Line
Copilot in Edge could soon become your digital sidekick - helping you work smarter, solve problems faster, and stay safer online.
